Onçafari was established in 2011 by Mario Haberfeld with the mission to conserve Brazil’s biodiversity by protecting natural areas and promoting the socioeconomic development of local communities. Initially focused on the Pantanal—the world’s largest tropical wetland—Onçafari pioneered jaguar habituation for ecotourism, allowing visitors to observe jaguars in their natural habitat while generating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.
Over the years, Onçafari has expanded into other critical biomes, including the Amazon, Atlantic Forest, and Cerrado, developing programs to protect endangered species, create ecological corridors, promote environmental education, implement wildfire management, and advocate for conservation policies. Through partnerships with local communities, private entities, and government agencies, Onçafari has become a leading force in wildlife conservation—combining science and community engagement to ensure the long-term preservation of Brazil’s most vital ecosystems.
